Internships and Volunteer Positions
Throughout the year, there are a variety of opportunities to volunteer with the NEC to help us continue our important work for our forests, coasts, rivers, and communities. For 45 years, the NEC has relied on the energy and commitment of our volunteers to achieve goals that would not be possible without your help!
You, too, can contribute to these goals with the gift of your time. Tasks range from small yet helpful tasks, such as delivery of EcoNews, to those that require special skills or a longer-term commitment, like website upgrading.
Coastal Cleanup Day Volunteers - Sign up to lead a team or join an existing team to clean a beach or waterway on International Coastal Cleanup Day in September. CLICK HERE for more information, or email email@example.com to sign up.
Adopt-a-Block Volunteers - Sign up to adopt and clean a designated block in Arcata. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 707-822-6918 for more information.
EcoNews distribution - Deliver copies of EcoNews to area locations convenient to you! We need your help to get EcoNews out to our readers! EcoNews is published every other month and we need your help to keep the paper in stock around the region.
Website upgrade project - Projects available for those with Drupal/html/css skills, and for those interested in just learning some basics. Lots to do here, and our web-woman could use some help!
EcoNews Archive project - Regular volunteers are needed to help with our ongoing efforts to digitize our 40+ years of historical EcoNews for an online archive. This is an important project that chronicles environmental journalism and activism in our bioregion!
Graphic Design - Create a variety of visual digital graphics for use on our website and social media, and print materials for tabling and educational purposes. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign required. Interpretive skills are a plus!
Special events volunteers - Volunteers needed to help with occasional special events, including ticket-takers, setup and cleanup, tabling, and more. This is a great way to network and meet fellow environmentalists!
Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator - Help us herd our cats! Well, we don't really have cats, but we could use some help coordinating volunteers and spreading the word about our events.
