Website Redesign Internship


            The Northcoast Environmental Center (NEC) is offering a Website Redesign Internship each semester. The NEC is a nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting understanding of the relations between people and the biosphere and to conserve, protect, and celebrate terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems of northern California and southern Oregon. We publish EcoNews, an environmental newspaper, on a bi-monthly basis, and publish content on our website. The website is updated with events, call to action, information about our growing programs and contains an archive of past EcoNews.

            Under the supervision of the Website Manager and in collaboration with NEC Staff, the Website Intern is responsible for updating and revising the existing drupal website. Hours per week are flexible but 60 hours are required per semester.  To view the current website visit

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and revise website content as needed
  • Research potential site migration to WordPress
  • Assist with correcting issues from the transition of Drupal 6 to Drupal 7
  • Assist in creation of website instruction manual
  • Create new content that includes, but is not limited to taxonomy, blocks, modules and views.


  • Must be an HSU student to receive internship credit
  • Ability to remain flexible and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in Mac operating system
  • Proficiency in Drupal or other CMS software required
  • Proficiency in CSS/HTML required
  • Proficiency in PHP preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in writing and communication
  • Preferred knowledge of conservation and environmental issues, community organizing and activism
